Why blog?

I decided to add another blog to share what I am creating in my sewing room. When my girls were little I made all their clothes and many of their toys.

Cabbage Patch Dolls ruled the playroom for a time and the dolls were precious to the pocket book. The dolls left shelves early and became a status unto their own by simply being able to walk out the door in the gleeful arms of the lucky buyer.

Were these dolls special? Only in the eyes of the child. That being said, I avoided the enticing ads for all the clothes and accessories available. Instead, I made clothes and accessories for the dolls myself.  I had enough fabric to make cuter, better quality clothing for the dolls. One outfit led to another from sweats to bunny slippers to doll backpacks and buntings. It was fun. The girls loved it. I missed those days.

Fast forward to my granddaughter Grace. We introduced ourselves to the American Girl Dolls together one Thanksgiving weekend when the movie Samantha premiered on television. The rest is, as they say history. She is a teenager now and like all teenagers, is exploring a new world only for teens. I still like the dolls and dreaming up clothes to make for them from my stash. She inspired me to dust off the machine and get sewing. Inspired by  Grace was born of our shared love for the dolls, the possibilities of a piece of fabric and the imagination of girls who like to play make believe.
